Leveling DoH

I realized I haven't been writing here as much as I was, but I think that's because I have been spending all my free time Playing! I decided that over Christmas break I wanted to get Culinarian to 20, Fisher to 15 and Weaver / Carpenter to 10. Then I started leveling Lancer and that got me all off track... but the ongoing goal is to be able to repair my own clothes / weapons on Archer.

Anyway, here are some screenshots I've taken over the past few days.

Got some new fishing gear: culottes, shoes and an ash fishing rod. Willow seems near impossible to find on my server. People can make it, but the mats are not easy to get a hold of.  I figured r7 was better than r1 though.

The above screenshot is of a place called Aleport near Limsa. I took my twinkleboxes here to trade for dream materials and discovered a very cute little seaport town, reminiscent of Selbina or somewhere in XI. Above two of the doors there were symbols for both the fishing and culinarian guilds. I decided to take some time and fished for a bit of malm kelp while I was there. The fishing was decent.

I really hope SE takes the time to develop some of the smaller areas, Aleport, Hyrstmill and the Golden Market Bazaar have all been interesting places to explore. I will post more pictures as Osiria explores more of Eorzea.

FFXIV Starlight Celebration: Dream Outfit

The white cotton tights are the Perfect pants for this outfit (since SE never includes "leg" in their giveaways...)

FFXIV Fishing

I enjoy fishing in FFXIV, but I found it a bit faster to level before the newest updates. I took fisher to 7 in basically no time, but grinding it from 8-11 was a tedious process. Basically I do guildleves whenever I can because they provide the easiest sp. The ones at Bentbranch were easy, really good sp and quick. Fishing grade 2 waters at Emerald Moss has been a different story. Despite switching bait, areas and sweet spots I occasionally fail the levequests.

Last night, I attempted the Gridanian Fighting Fish leve and fished with Moth Pupa, Chocobo Fly and Midge Baskets. I failed the leve, catching only one fighting fish. Afterward, I was very successful in the grade 2 waters with Midge Baskets and am considering heading to La Noesca to farm Puks and obtain a few more for experimentation. They appeared to catch mostly crayfish and salmon.

Regarding some of the generated responses while fishing: I really dislike the new mechanical response “Something big hits your line!” It’s extremely misleading and makes me think I am about to fish up something uncommon or rare, but nope, it’s another crayfish. I do like the “You sense *such and such type of fish* below you” because it assists me in finding sweet spots for certain types of fish. Also, now, instead of giving you 1-5 chances to “farm” there, the game force closes your rod and lets you know “The fish are agitated, you put your rod up and observe” when it’s time to move on.

FFXIV Starlight Celebration

I waited all week for the new patch to download and the Starlight Ceremony to begin! I was rather disappointed my first "gift" was a pinch of powdered sugar, but I suppose I shall make do. I plan to write all the things I like / dislike about the patch tomorrow, but for now, some holiday chocobo cheer!

Cassiopeia Hollow

I duo-ed some Cassiopeias with an ls mate and was getting decent sp, around 100 each. But more importantly, the zone is beautiful! Definitely the loveliest zone I have visited so far. We didn't run around much and basically just pulled the jellies from in front of the Aetherial Gate.

I have some new gear too. Just need to upgrade pants / belt. And repair my bow... YES ALREADY! I just bought it. ; ;

Wednesday begins the Starlight Celebration and I can't wait!! Reindeer wark!

FFXIV Updates to Management

Thank you for your continued interest in and support of FINAL FANTASY XIV.

While more than two months have passed since the official launch of FINAL FANTASY XIV service, we deeply regret that the game has yet to achieve the level of enjoyability that FINAL FANTASY fans have come to expect from the franchise, and for this we offer our sincerest of apologies.

After thorough deliberation on how to meet those expectations, it was decided that the most viable step was to approach improvements under new leadership and with a restructured team.

To realize this vision, and in doing so, provide our customers with a better game experience, we have assembled our company’s top talent and resources. Taking over the role of producer and director is Naoki Yoshida, a passionate individual for whom customer satisfaction has always taken top priority. Not only is he one of our Group’s most accomplished and experienced members, Naoki Yoshida is also a charismatic leader possessing the skill to bring together and effectively helm a team which encompasses a wide range of responsibilities. We also welcome several new leaders handpicked from other projects to work with the existing talent on FINAL FANTASY XIV.

We realize time is of the essence and are fully determined to provide our customers with quality service. It is because of this that we ask our customers to be patient until we are able to confidently present them with a concrete plan outlining FINAL FANTASY XIV’s new direction. The free trial period will be extended until that time.

Regarding the PlayStation 3, it is not our wish to release a simple conversion of the Windows version in its current state, but rather an update that includes all the improvements we have planned. For that reason, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of the PlayStation 3 version beyond the originally announced date of March 2011.

The FINAL FANTASY XIV team is working hard to bring our customers an unparalleled adventure, and we ask for your continued understanding and support as we march ever diligently towards that goal.

archer 16-19.

4 days without touching my game...

I awoke this morning with a singular purpose, to obtain Archer rank 20 by Sunday night. I intended to do Rank 20 levequests ad nauseum, but turns out my LS mates were leveling in Mun Tuy so I hopped into a party and took Archer from 16-19 in a few hours. I am about 1k into Rank 19 and have all day tomorrow to get to 20!

unimplemented ffxiv classes.

I noticed the update on FFXIV Lodestone regarding Harlequin level 50 armor. Their gear reminds me of Bard from FFXI, and although I would be rather sad regarding the lack of a musical class, I think the Harlequin sounds quite intriguing. And I totally want that hat. However, this new development caused me to further investigate future class updates; I had heard about Arcanist (already has NPCs in LL, I believe) and Musketeer (potential gun class). But I found something even more interesting!
Shepherd
- A Disciple of the Land class.
- They use an action called "Herd."
What the what?? It has been SO LONG since I could play a true animal tamer class; like, Ultima Online long. Beastmaster was similar, but it was, in all actuality, a battle class. Animal Tamers could harness something, say a dragon, own it, and sell it for money to other players. It didn't deal merely with a temporary enchantment, but rather a permanent situation. You could tame your own wild horses to stable and ride at your leisure, or sell to stable NPCs / other players. I remember riding a raptor creature around town. Anyway, I loved it. Perhaps FFXIV could allow us to tame Chocobos. Fingers crossed this is speedily added.

Squenix has already stated advanced classes will be added through version updates rather than expansion packs. I believe Arcanist and Musketeer will be first though.
